I Want More Disabled Rage

I was commissioned by DaDaFest International 40: RAGE – A Quiet Riot to create a piece of work for their festival. I have been getting into sculpture and loving it and so decided to do a sculpture. You don’t have to be Einstein to see disabled people are being persecuted at the moment, but maybe you need help with questioning why disability charities are raking in billions but things for disabled people are getting harder. Disability charities also don’t want to go beyond the narrative of pity, otherwise they lose money, so people cannot see other narratives and actually what the average person knows about disability is shit. I made a sculpture out of charity collecting cans to spell out the word ‘RAGE’. Each can had the label ‘RAGE’ on it, and on the other side was a reason to be rageful, such as ‘DWP Deaths’, Rising Disability Hate Crimes’ and ‘Less and Less Rights’. I also made a video of the creation of the work with me reciting my poem ‘I Want More Disabled Rage’ over it.
